Effective interviews are paramount for productions using sound bites.
Having interviewed more than 10,000 people, I’ve learned to:
- Know the material thoroughly to comprehensively engage with the subject.
- Treat the Q&A as a genuine, flowing conversation.
- Cover all the messaging points in the story outline.
- Maintain the story’s tone from interview to interview.
- Reference sound bites from previous interviews so others can play off of them.
- Prompt subjects to complete broken sentences and tie together disjointed thoughts.
- Probe to reveal more… Not just the “what” but the “why.”
